Tea Cake

Recipe for Tea Cake:

2 eggs - then add
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening

-cream together

4 tbl molasses
1 teasp each of cinnamon and cloves
2 cups flour

-mix together thouroughly then add cup of boiling water
1 teasp soda

Bake 35 minutes

Johnny Appleseed Bars

Recipe for "Johnny Appleseed Bars" -

1 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 c oats
2/3 c brown sugar (packed)
1/2 c oil
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla

Mix together and press half of dough in 9" square pan

Sprinkle with 1 c nuts 2 c thin sliced apples

Spread rest of dough over nuts and apples, press down with pancake turner and smooth top

Bake 350 degrees - 25 min.

Cool and sift conf. sugar

Cut in bars

Rice Dainty




Recipe for "Rice Dainty (pudding)" -

3/4 c. cooked rice
3/4 c. fruit - chopped
1/2 c. honey
3/4 c. cream - whipped

Mix rice, fruit + honey.

Fold in whipped cream + chill well.

Mrs. Eisenhower's Fudge


Mrs. Eisenhower's Fudge

4 1/2 c. sugar
Salt (pinch)
2 TB butter
1 can evaporated milk (tall)

Bring to boil - boil 6 minutes

Put in bowl

12 oz. semi-sweet choc. bits
4 sq. bitter choc.
1 pt. marshmallow cream (2 jars)
2 c. nut meats

Pour boiling syrup over choc. and cream, beat till melted.
Pour in pan.

Found in "Bend Sinister" by Vladimir Nabokov. Published by Time-Life in 1964.

I figured that someone had just copied a recipe published by Mamie Eisenhower, so I did a little research. Sure enough, this is her "Million Dollar Fudge."

English Muffin Loaves



English Muffin Loaves - Betty Gregory

5 1/2 - 6 cups flour *
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 pkgs. Fleischman's Active Dry Yeast
2 cups milk
1 tbl. sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tsp. salt
cornmeal

*Measure by spooning flour lightly into cup

Combine 3 cups flour, yeast sugar, salt, and soda. Heat liquids until very warm (120° f. - 130° f.)
Add to dry mixture; beat well. Stir in enough more flour to make a stiff batter. Spoon into two 8 1/2" x 4 1/2" pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Sprinkle tops with cornmeal. Cover, let rise in warm place for 45 min. Bake at 400° f. for 25 min. Remove from pans immediately and cool.

To serve: Slice and toast. Makes 16 slices per loaf.

Recipe for... food.


Chocolate Mouse

8 oz bitter sweet ch
egg whites
whip cream

Cook small onions w/ dash of sugar
olive oil, ground pepper add 1/2 butter
add tiny peas (fresh only) canned
slice carrots very thin. cook 1 c (water)
dash salt / sugar
shell steak / roast no fat dab of butter
oregano rosemary thyme
cayenne black pepper dash salt
roll roast in it
brown in olive oil 4 min ea side
asparagus cut on bias in pieces

sauce
hot mustard
dash salt
cracked pepper
canola oil

> mix put asparagus in sauce marinate

Andrea's Cheesecake

Recipe for cheesecake:

Cheese Cake - Andrea

4 pkgs 8 ounce cream ch
1 C sugar
Med sized can crushed pineapple drained overnite
1 tsp vanilla
dash cinnamon

---in blender thoroughly mixed and thick

Add 4 eggs

Pour into spring pan - graham cracker - use brown sugar

1 hr @ 350 °

Choco Mallow Logs


Recipe:

Choco Mallow Logs

1 6 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate
2 tbl. Parkay margine
1 egg beaten
3 cups Kraft Miniature Marshmallows
1 cup chopped nuts
Conf. sugar

Melt choc. + marg. over low heat. Remove from heat.
Add egg mix well. Cool slightly. Mix marshmallows
and nuts in large bowl. Pour chocolate mixture over
marshmallows and nuts; mix well.
Divide mixture in half.

On waxed paper sprinkled with conf. sugar shape each into a roll about 8" long. Chill several hours. Slice to serve. 2 rolls.

Charlie Chaplin Cocktail & Art Rose's Punch


Recipe card.

Side one:

Charlie Chaplin Cocktail (Art Rose's father-in-law)

4 parts gin

2 parts imported French apricot brandy

1 part lemon juice

Shake with a bunch (?) of ice and serve.


Side Two:

Art Rose's Punch

1 part whiskey

1 part white grape juice

2 parts sparkling water

Have all chilled -
Pour over block of ice in punch bowl - serve at once.
