Apple Sauce

Apple Sauce

4 med apples, cut in fourths
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup packed brown sugar - or 1/3 - 1/2 cup granulated suagr
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg

Heat apples & water to boiling over medium heat. Reduce heat. Simmer uncovered stirring occasionally to break up apples until tender, 5-10 mins.
Stir in remaining ingredients. Heat to boiling, boil & stir 1 minute.

This is a great idea for a website... I have a lot of handwritten recipes from my grandmother. They are so interesting. Windows on the past. And I love the strange congruencies of recipes in random books.

I find it interesting that the recipe is written on the back of what looks like a receipt. Is it a receipt for the book? Now I'm curious about the origins of that slip of paper!

It's a receipt from a grocery store.
